Gunvor joins VARO in building a large-scale SAF production facility

Gunvor Group will join VARO Energy as an equal partner to jointly develop a large-scale SAF production facility. The facility, to be built in Rotterdam, aims to deliver up to 7% of the EU 2030 SAF mandate, totalling a capacity of 350 kilotonnes per annum.

The development of the facility was announced by VARO in September 2023 and has, since, made good progress, expecting to finish the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phase before the end of 2024.

Gunvor Group is creating logistics solutions for trading and moving physical energy commodities. It will step in as an equal partner to jointly develop this SAF facility at the Gunvor energy site in Rotterdam.

The facility focuses on maximising flexibility in both feedstocks and products, aiming to produce both HVO and SAF in varying proportions. This allows the facility to benefit from shifts in supply and demand.
