Seminar
Public Seminar: The new feedstock providers for a fossil free chemical industry
The renewable fuel sector is investing on the short run in ramping up renewable fuels for meeting the mandates. Yet, a new investment round is still needed for the new production pathways for the road transport as well as for the aviation and maritime sectors.
However, investing in new volumes for road sector is difficult as these volumes will be phased out in the coming decades due to electrification of engines. Over time these feedstocks will become available for a (new) fossil free chemical sector. In parallel, demand creation for green chemical products is needed to stimulate investments for the production of the green chemical building blocks. This type of demand creation is currently lacking for most industrial products, especially for the chemical sector.
The connection between the investments needed for the developments needed to green chemical products and the aviation and maritime sectors is thus evident.
In this public seminar we will look at the supply and demand of fossil free sources in Europe in 2040 and discuss how to develop new supply-chains of sustainable bio feedstocks and green hydrogen. This is done by investigating the pathway to produce green chemical products along with the identification of CO2 point sources that can be used for products. This becomes more apparent when considering Tata Steel in The Netherlands, responsible for emitting 12 million tonne of CO2. This CO2 could be turned into useful fuels and chemical products that avoid the use of virgin fossil. We would like to start understanding the types of green building blocks that will be needed. Finally there will be a need for a demand market pull with instruments to support the production of green products.
Join us in this discussion on the transition to a fossil free, green industrial sector.
