IEA Bioenergy: An introduction to quantifying the climate effects of bioenergy
IEA Bioenergy invites you to participate in a free international webinar entitled “An introduction to quantifying the climate effects of bioenergy”.
The IEA Bioenergy Task 45 aims to build a body of knowledge to equip the community of practice to undertake well-informed studies on the sustainability of bioenergy. This includes the development, demonstration and refinement of metrics, methods and tools for the quantification of GHG emissions related to bioenergy production and use.
Within this context, the webinar will address selected aspects and discussions that can help stakeholders to deepen their general understanding for available tools and methods as well as crucial elements to be considered in the quantification of climate impacts of bioenergy supply chains.
The topics covered in the webinar will include:
i) a discussion of potential reasons for contrasting findings about the climate effects of forest bioenergy (Task 45 has published a paper on this topic which is available here)
ii) a comparison of selected calculation tools for bioenergy pathways (a publication from a related IEA Bioenergy intertask project is available here)
iii) a presentation on existing tools and illustrative examples which shall provide orientation for stakeholders that are new to the topic.
The webinar will be moderated by Floor van der Hilst (Utrecht University, Netherlands). Presentations will be given by Miguel Brandão (KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden), Otávio Cavalett (Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway) and Stefan Majer (Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum, Germany).
This webinar will be held on Thursday, March 31 2022 from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm Central European Summer Time / 9:00 am – 10:30 pm North American Eastern Daylight Time / 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm British Summer Time.
